With a population of 21.7 million, Romania is the second largest country in Central and Eastern Europe and has a strategic location between Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The Black Sea forms the south-eastern border and the river Danube forms the southern border with Bulgaria. The Carpathian Mountains run from the north, almost as far as Bucharest, and the landscape offers fertile plains, gentle hills, prime agricultural land and numerous vineyards. The Danube delta has been designated a protected area by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Romania joined NATO in 2004 and is currently looking to achieve EU accession in 2007/2008. The country has consistently enhanced its political stability since 2000 and has enjoyed a steady rise in the economy over the past five years. As a result, interest in investing in property has increased, with the market strongly developing and providing good opportunities for capital growth. Current predictions suggest that the property market could see up to a 30% growth in the next 12 months.
